Global Game Jam

Bright Heart

What if unethical research were to be allowed in the world? And how many test subjects do you think it would take to perfect it?

In Bright Heart the story revolves around Jason, one of the many failed experiment, that has been dumped into a disposal site. He has awakened alone and the only thing that can light the way is his heart.

Jason begins his journey discovers the beating of his heart is the only way to light his way. Although he cannot fight he encounters creatures both friendly and foe. Friendly creatures are the other failed experiments that are stuck and have been wondering for a long time in the darkness. They are willing to do anything to be free. The enemy creatures are other experiments that have gone terribly wrong or animals that live in the cave not willing to share their space with others.

The theme of the Global Game Jam was the sound of heartbeats. The core mechanics of the game is based around the heartbeat of Jason. The faster the heart beat the brighter his heart will shine thus bigger the field of view and the faster the sound of the heart is, this allows the player to see more of the environment but on the flip side trigger more enemies (or friendlies). But run too much, Jason will run out of breath causing him to slow down and be a easier target for enemies. The levels were procedurally generated and the goal is to escape the cave.
